I’m excited to show you how I made my beautiful barn quilt for beginners.

Step 1: Prepare the wood

To get rid of any splinters and jagged edges, sand the plywood. Apply an external priming coat to the wood after that. This will improve the paint’s adhesion.

We have curated an extensive list of barn quilt patterns. Pick a pattern that suits your skill level and that you enjoy. You should choose a simple barn quilt to start your barn quilting career.

Step 3: Draw the pattern on the wood

Draw the pattern onto the prepared wood using a pencil and ruler. A frame should be able to fit around the corners of the design, so make sure it is centered on the wood.

Step 4: Cut out the pattern

The pattern can be cut out with a saw or jigsaw. Take care not to cut too deeply into the wood and to follow the lines closely.

Step 5: Sand the edges

For a smooth finish, sand the cut-out pattern’s edges.

Step 6: Paint the barn quilt

For the barn quilt, use outdoor paint to paint the colors you want. Pay close attention to the drying times specified on the paint can.

Step 7: Add a frame

Your barn quilt can add a frame to give it a polished appearance. Cut four pieces of wood to the desired frame size to do this. Next, fasten the frame parts to the barn blanket using screws or nails.

Step 8: Attach the hanging hardware

At the top edge of the barn quilt, drill two equally spaced holes. Next, use nails or screws to fasten L-brackets to the holes.
